Engineering Africa's Maritime Future Through Innovation,
Sustainability, and Ocean Expertise.
Bahari BlueTech is a Mombasa-based marine engineering and ocean technology firm operating at the intersection of precision engineering, sustainable ocean resource management, and Africa-centred blue economy development.
Founded to address a structural gap — the near-total absence of locally owned, technically credible African marine engineering institutions — the firm designs and fabricates vessels, models aquaculture infrastructure, develops underwater technology, and advises on ocean governance across East Africa and beyond.
Africa holds over 38,000 km of coastline, vast Exclusive Economic Zones, and some of the world's most underexplored deep sea mineral systems. Bahari BlueTech exists to ensure that the engineering and governance capacity needed to develop those resources is built in Africa, owned by Africa, and operated for Africa.
Cyril Kariuki is a Kenyan marine engineer, blue economy strategist, and ocean innovator with hands-on experience spanning vessel operations, port operations, naval architecture, and East Africa's maritime regulatory ecosystem. He founded Bahari BlueTech with a single driving conviction: that Africa's oceans cannot be engineered by outsiders.
His technical profile encompasses GRP vessel design and fabrication, Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) system modelling, ISA deep sea mining governance, and ocean policy advisory — a deliberately multidisciplinary capability assembled to serve the full range of Africa's blue economy development needs from a single, accountable institution.
Cyril has engaged directly with Kenya's coastal county governments, fishing cooperatives, and international development organisations — bringing engineering rigour to sectors that have historically been underserved by local technical institutions. He holds deep experience within the UNCLOS and International Seabed Authority (ISA) regulatory frameworks that will govern the next chapter of Africa's ocean economy.
Through Bahari BlueTech, Cyril is building not just a firm — but the institutional infrastructure for a sovereign African blue economy: designed, built, governed, and operated by the communities and nations that live alongside the continent's extraordinary ocean frontier.
A multidisciplinary engineering and advisory capability stack built specifically for Africa's blue economy frontier.
Complex ocean engineering challenges require more than a single discipline. Bahari BlueTech works alongside a network of specialist collaborators — bringing the full capability stack required to deliver at institutional scale.
